This bridge is on the Old Donner Pass Highway.
It has a spectacular view of Donner Lake and
Donner Pass on Route 80.

A bear was walking across Rainbow Bridge (Old Hwy 40 at
Donner Summit, Truckee) on Saturday when two cars, also
crossing the bridge, scared the bear into jumping over the
edge of the bridge.  Somehow the bear caught the ledge
and was able to pull itself to safety.  Authorities  decided
that nothing could be done to help Saturday night so they
returned Sunday morning to find the bear sound asleep on
the ledge.

After securing a net under the bridge the bear was tranquilized,
fell into the net, lowered, then woke up and walked out of the net.

There is a moral to this story; this old bear made
a wrong move and found he was hanging by his nails.  Somehow
he was able to pull himself up onto the ledge where he saw he
was in a very bad, impossible situation and what did he do?
Yep, he took a nap and sure enough, God took care of the
situation while he was asleep.

The moral of the story is that when confronted with a bad
situation, sometimes the best solution is to take a nap  and
let God take care of the rest.

(AP) YACHATS, Ore. (AP) - A wayward sea lion trying to scoot down a highway along the Oregon coast got an escort from state troopers.

The Oregon State Police says the animal apparently entered U.S. Highway 101 through a state park near Yachats (yah-hahts) and weaved in and out of traffic for about half a mile.

Troopers and a local fire and rescue unit used batons and plastic boards designed to keep patients immobile as they flanked the sea lion and guided it along the side of highway.

The animal was led back into the Pacific Ocean after the procession guided it to an oceanside state park about a quarter mile down the road from where it was found.

Deputies in Florida had to handcuff a rather unusual suspect — a 7-foot-long alligator. A crossing guard at a Tampa-area school spotted the gator lounging near an elementary school Monday morning around the time children would be walking to school.

As she and three deputies waited for a trapper to arrive, the alligator started walking toward the children. Three deputies roped the gator’s neck and tail as the animal rolled and thrashed. Its tail broke off chunks of stucco from a nearby wall.

Deputies later secured the gator’s mouth with electrical tape and handcuffed its hind legs. Florida Fish and Wildlife officials took custody of the animal until the trapper arrived.

Any dachshund owner knows the feisty breed rarely backs off from a challenge, but one in Russia is taking that reputation to new heights — or depths.

The dog named Boniface is learning how to scuba dive.

Owner Sergei Gorbunov, a professional diver in the Pacific Coast city of Vladivostok had a diving suit complete with helmet made for the dog and is teaching him the tricks of the trade.

In a recent demonstration, Boniface barked eagerly as Gorbunov readied the equipment and uncomplainingly endured being hung upside-down as Gorbunov fitted the suit on him.

Once underwater, he seemed to have a different outlook, emitting some high-pitched whines.

Gobunov says, “Underwater, I don’t think he experiences any stress.”

A man was reportedly run over by his own truck after his dog put it into gear. The sheriff’s office reported that 43-year-old Christopher Bishop was checking under his Ford F-150 for oil leaks Sunday evening. He had put the running truck into neutral and left the driver’s door open. While he was under the truck, Bishop’s bulldog, Tassey, jumped into the truck and knocked the vehicle into gear. The truck rolled over the left side of Bishop’s body.

Bishop managed to get up, stop the vehicle and go into his house. After several hours of pain, Bishop finally called for help.

He was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Rescuers have freed a cow that spent several days trapped beneath a city street in Utah.

KSTU-TV Fox 13 reported Thursday that the cow was hoisted out of a storm drain in Kaysville after it was fitted in a harness connected to a tractor.

Animal control officers in Davis County believe the cow squeezed into the culvert several days ago and became trapped as it moved farther into the narrow storm drain system.

Holden Holt tells Fox 13 that he and his wife spotted the trapped cow Thursday morning on a walk.

Crews had to dig up part of a road before the cow was lifted out late Thursday afternoon. The cow appeared exhausted but alive.
